Background
April Urban earned her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 2006.
Prior to law school, Ms. Urban worked for many years as a computer programmer and program analyst to the Naval Aviation Training and Operating Procedures Standardization (“NATOPS”) Program helping ensure safety of flight for our beloved service members.
During law school, Ms. Urban served as the Editor-in-Chief of the University of Baltimore Law Forum and Assistant Manuscripts Editor for the University of Baltimore Law Review. Ms. Urban was also chosen as a Teaching Assistant in the University of Baltimore LARW program, where she had the pleasure of teaching legal research and writing skills to first year law students. Ms. Urban was also bestowed the Clinic Excellence Award for her service in the Family Law Clinic.
Experience
Following law school, Ms. Urban had the distinct pleasure of serving as a judicial clerk for the Honorable Lenore R. Gelfman of the Circuit Court of Howard County.
Ms. Urban is proud to have been selected as a Maryland Super Lawyers Rising Star for 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018. She is also one of fifteen attorneys with the distinct honor of being chosen as a Maryland Bar Association Leadership Academy Fellow for the 2008-2009 year. In this regard, Ms. Urban is being groomed to lead the Maryland State Bar Association in the future. Ms. Urban is honored to serve on the Maryland State Bar Association’s Committee on Resolution of Fee Disputes for 11 consecutive years.
Prior to joining Milstein Siegel, Ms. Urban first spent two years representing pro bono clients at The University of Baltimore’s Family Law Clinic as a Rule 16 Student Attorney.
She has spent the last 15 years in private practice representing clients in all areas of domestic conflicts, including divorce, child custody, child access, child support, alimony, domestic violence, separation and property settlement agreements, grandparent/third-party custody, visitation, adoptions, guardianships and Special Immigrant Juvenile Status cases.
She also advocates on behalf of children by serving as a Best Interest Attorney in family law disputes. She is a trained mediator in Civil and Family Law (Custody/Visitation) who is sometimes court-appointed to help parties attempt to solve their differences before reaching the trial phase of their case. Also, Ms. Urban welcomes parties to attempt to solve their differences in private mediation with her prior to filing a court action.
